The 2012 Health Challenge is a simple DIY idea for you (as your company’s wellness champion) to implement. This Challenge is the perfect initiative to launch your wellness programme/calendar in either January or February 2012. It costs nothing (as you can run the challenge yourself), is easy to administer and is all about you supporting and inspiring health within your organisation.What is it?The 2012 Health Challenge is a personal challenge to all your company’s employees to set and achieve one important personal health-related goal this year. 2012 could be the year when your employees – run that half marathon they have always wanted to; give up smoking; lose 10% of their current body weight; enter and complete a triathlon; reduce stress and achieve better balance. Whatever the goal, this is the year to make it happen! How to implement the 2012 Health Challenge – 5 Step ProcessSTEP 1:Communicate the challenge to your employees
Jan/Feb 2012 • Use email, posters, the intranet and your wellness portal to let staff know about the challenge. • Make your message positive and fun and don’t forget to include your internal wellness programme brand. • Remember to get attention with your email subject line – ask a question or use phrases like “How to improve your health in 2012…”. Try and personalise your tone as much as possible by using “you” and “your” in the subject line. STEP 2:Set up the structure and timeframe for your challenge. We suggest that you have all personal challenges logged with you by Feb 28th and that all challenges must be completed by November 30th 2012.STEP 3:Have challenge participants complete their Personal Wellness Goal Worksheet (supplied by Vitality Works) and email this to you (the company wellness champion) by a date set by you (e.g. February 28th, 2012).STEP 4:Each month communicate personal stories with staff about how challenge participants are going with their personal health goals. With permission – celebrate success stories by publishing the names of those who have achieved their challenge each month. Remember some participants will need most of 2012 to complete their challenges; while others may complete theirs in the first few months.STEP 5:Celebrate Success. Produce a simple yet stylish 2012 Health Challenge Certificate that all participants get given once their challenge has been completed. Ideally you will see these begin to appear on participants work spaces as they receive them throughout the year. This will inspire others to keep working towards achieving their goals.By using the Vitality Works Personal Wellness Goal Worksheet and by following the 5 Step process outlined above, you can run this challenge at no cost (other than your time). Alternatively, Vitality Works can customise and administer the challenge for you and your organisation. This would be charged at $90 + GST per hour.
